How NOT to Answer
Avoid Generic Answers
When answering “Why do you want this job?”, avoid giving generic or vague responses that could apply to any company, such as “I need a job” or “This company is well-known.” As honest as they are, these answers can come across as indifferent and like this company is just another job. Most places want to be a first choice!
Don’t Focus on the Benefits
Steer clear of focusing solely on benefits, salary, or other perks, as this can make you seem more interested in what the company can do for you rather than what you can contribute. Additionally, don’t badmouth your current or previous employers, as this can come across as unprofessional.
Don’t be Overly Rehearsed
As much as this blog aims to help you answer ‘why do you want this job’, avoid overly rehearsed responses that lack authenticity! Strive for a genuine and thoughtful response that reflects your true motivations and understanding of the role and company.
