A leading Utility Infrastructure Consultancy requires a Technical Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis.

The role will allow the successful candidate to become a Utility Infrastructure Consultant working in conjunction with Developers, Principle Contractors, Land Promoters, Architects, Engineers, Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers, on exciting development schemes across a wide range of sectors and size of schemes. The Technical Engineer will provide technical advice and support on utility infrastructure projects to internal departments and external clients.

Technical support

  • Provide technical support to external clients for master planning, utilities assessment, procurement and delivery of utility infrastructure
  • Provide technical support to internal departments; reviewing schemes at inception, analysing infrastructure drawings and advising on applications and procurement of utility infrastructure quotations
  • Identify potential utility infrastructure issues, to optimise the delivery of utility disconnections, diversions, connections for developments on brown and green field sites
  • Assess utility demand loadings for applications and liaise with external M+E consultants
  • Training will be provided to enable the Technical Engineer top understand general infrastructure network principles, utility services design and pricing
  • Interface with clients and their consultants
  • Interpret utilities, architectural and engineering drawings
  • Produce desktop and intrusive utility infrastructure feasibility and strategy reports
  • Estimate budget costs for utility connections, diversions and disconnections
  • Provide report guidance to Technical Coordinators and check their reports prior to issue
  • Manage and effectively resource the report writing process and oversee their issue
  • Input into quote application strategy and brief, identify suitable tenders for applications
  • Check connections, diversions, disconnections and budget utility quotes for interpretation of brief, to identify inclusions & exclusions and provide quality assurance
  • Review and query quotes received for effective, economic and sustainable infrastructure solutions
  • Represent the company at design team and site meetings
  • Represent the company at regulatory and commercial meetings
  • Negotiate and challenge utility and service providers with regard to diversionary work and new supplies, wayleaves and easements in the interests of clients
  • Represent the company at client meetings and utility company meetings and produce accurate meeting notes and relay the key actions
  • Undertake site surveys including assessment of utilities infrastructure constraint on proposed developments, recording existing supply and metering details

Skills/Personal Attributes:

  • HND/HNC/Degree in Civil engineering, construction or utilities related discipline is essential
  • Experience of using AutoCAD or similar software is desirable
  • Ability to manage and introduce processes
  • Team working
  • Strong organisation skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Some experience in Utility or Construction Industry is essential
  • Awareness of drainage design would be desirable
  • Excellent communicator and confident to attend meetings and advise clients and technical team members as appropriate
